“Party, people, hey, it's Friday night
We're gonna rock this joint until the morning light
Crowd is jumping, hey, it feels all right
Forget Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, hey, it's Friday night.”

An Update, An Offer, An Invitation And a Plea For Help

Hello again, classmates, and welcome to the first North Central High School Class of '69 Reunion blog post of 2009. I spent yesterday afternoon with some dedicated committee members and someone brought up the fact that the "Brickyard 400" was on July 26 this year, the day after your reunion. We all whole-heartedly agreed that this was a most auspicious coincidence, that two such potentially enjoyable events could be taken in on the same weekend. And who knows what the committee might dream up for Friday night and Saturday?

The National Bank of Indianapolis has graciously agreed to sponsor the triumphant return of "The Thundermen" for your dancing pleasure. Woodstock Country Club is one of the most elegant party venues in Indianapolis. The people who used to snub you are now fat, bald and grey; they make great snub targets themselves, now. We will eat, drink and be merry once again. We want you to be there with us, to be part of a grand celebration. Please contact the committee or comment on this post. Let us know you'll be there. Buy your tickets in advance and save $10 per. Tell your classmate friends. Let us know how to find you. Subscribe to this blog. Post your questions or concerns on this blog and I'll get answers for you. Tell me I've just written an offensive, arrogant paragraph, I don't care. Tell us you'll join us...

(Us=those who've said 'yes' and would like to see you.)

40th Reunion for 40 Bucks--Limited Time Offer! Act Now!

That's right, advance sale tickets are available now! For only $40 per head you can reserve your place for this momentous gathering. I've been informed that the price will go up after the first of the year and with the economy the way it is it only makes sense to take advantage of this limited time offer. Make your check payable to:

NCHS Class of 1969 Reunion
and mail to:

Simmons & Brake LLC
5435 N. Emerson Way #404
Indianapolis, IN 46226
Attn:NCHS Reunion (This line is critical! Mail often gets lost in the cavernous expanse of Jay's financial empire HQ.)

Here are Jay's notes from the meeting of 10/6

"Those in attendance: Nancy O'Kane, David Cory, Linda Mordoh, Cy Donnelly, Polly Jameson, Jane Essenberg, Debbie Broderick, Jeff Hoffman, Suzie Townes, Barb Eden and Jay Simmons.

There was a discussion of what time to start and end the reunion-it was agreed that 6:30pm until 11:30pm would be the official hours of the event but Polly felt if the event went later that would not be a problem. This was not the case with Riverwalk-the event would have been upcharged if it went past 11:00pm.

Jeff Hoffman, Linda Mordoh and Barb Eden agreed to be in charge of decorations for the event but insisted that their sub-committee be referred to as "The Look" in the future.

Cy Donnelly agreed to work with Christy Davis to create a clever invitation for our blog site. Nancy O'Kane will come up with several questions for the registration form to use for a trivia contest-who came the furthest distance to the reunion, who has the most grandchildren, dogs, cats, jobs or ex spouses? Has anyone married the same person more than once? How many of your children still live at home? -if you have any ideas on this e-mail them to Nancy O'Kane.

Suzie Townes and David Cory are working on locating more of our classmates. If you have info on long lost class of 69ers e-mail the info to David Cory.

We are also looking for classmates interested in sponsoring various parts of the reunion costs-the Thundermen ($400), the Look (budget not yet determined), perhaps a CD with pictures of people then and now that could be mailed out after the event (cost not yet determined), maybe some token gifts for the trivia awards-Suzie Townes would be your contact for this.

Jay Simmons will call Jim George in the next week or two to discuss the possibility of having an informal gathering at their (Karen and Jim are the owners) restaurant on Friday July 24th, 2009.

Ed Elliot is working on a golf event for Saturday morning but was not at tonight's meeting to give an update. Cy Donnelly mentioned trying to arrange a tour of North Central High School sometime Sat. the 25th if there was enough interest.

It was reported that classmates.com has the wrong date for our reunion on their website. Someone was going to get this corrected but I failed to catch who exactly this was. Hope I did not miss anything important."

Class of '69 Reunion at ...

It is with great pleasure that I inform you, my classmates, that the 40th reunion of the NCHS class of 1969 will be held at Woodstock Country Club on the 25th of July, 2009. Committee members are investigating other ways of entertaining you over the weekend, i.e. golf outing, informal get-together Friday night or wheelchair races. Stay tuned; we'll inform you of progress as it occurs.

By the way--that's Woodstock in Indianapolis, not New York. And like the festival in New York we will have music provided by the Thundermen (watch the movie again; I believe they came on right after Country Joe and the Fish).

Update 9/10/08

Things are moving along nicely. Here are some comments from Jay Simmons regarding last night's meeting.

"Committee met last night. There seems to be some problems with the June dates proposed. Polly (Boleman) J. suggested we consider Woodstock Country Club and Suzie (Kappes) T. said she could check into Meridian Hills. We are now looking at the last weekend of July-what do you think? The committee will be looking for photos-of you, the school, school events, clubs..... from 1968/69. Start looking through your achives while we figure out a way to collect them (electronically hopefully)."

Update

This is too cool, seeing names of people I haven't seen for so many years. Most of us didn't go for the combined class reunion at 30 years so you guys that show are going to look really old to me! And for that reason I wouldn't worry about cliques that existed years ago; wrinkles and weight will be great equalizers.

We are getting close to nailing down a date and venue; a group will be meeting on Tuesday the 9th of September to make rapid forward progress on these two items. It would be a huge help if you let anyone you know that Dave hasn't tracked down about the reunion. As is often the case, word of mouth provides superior communication. Greg, I can't wait to see you dance!
